Sneaker Politics meets old school US sportswear brand Saucony in an homage to iconic Louisiana-based eaterie Café du Monde. Famous for its ‘beignets’ – French-style donuts dusted with powdered sugar – the Café is a national treasure in the US, having existed in the New Orleans French Market since 1862. This sneaker takes the Shadow 5000 silhouette and gives it a sleek, beignet-inspired update – toffee brown suede and vanilla mesh combine to create the uppers while overlays are made up of chestnut brown leather flecked with white to look like a scattering of sugar. Pine green rubber outsoles and embroidery evoke the Café’s patio awnings, and a trifecta of bright green branding marks the tongue pulls for a perfect parting touch. Get them while they’re hot – in honour of Café du Monde’s 157 year history, only 157 pairs have been made.
